Uptown Normal Circle

Uptown Normal is an ambitious redevelopment project led by the Town to revitalize its declining downtown. Sustainability is at the heart of the neighborhood plan. For the centerpiece of this new district, Hoerr Schaudt designed The Circle, where naturally-cleansed stormwater, civic gathering space, and transportation work in unison.  The Circle is a roundabout intersection with a park at its center that naturally cleanses stormwater from the surrounding streetscape through a series of filtration bogs. This creative stormwater system returns the cleansed water to the site in the form of a public water feature, and recycles water into an irrigation system for the adjacent  streetscapes.
