The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Luxury Residence

Kay Lang Associates as Interior Designer, and consultant to AAI Architects, Inc., for the Mandarin Oriental Residences provided comprehensive Interior Design Services including Planning, Design, Colors Materials, Art Artifact Selections, Interior Architectural Documentation and Construction Administration.

Our Design Team was inspired by the classic modern Asian-influenced design of the Mandarin Oriental Hotels Worldwide. Ms. Lang endeavored to blend stylish Haute Couture with a Zen mood to create a contemporary design aesthetic. The interiors are sleek and sophisticated, detailed simply with beautiful natural tones and design elements. The building design for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Luxury Residence forms a unique geometry it comes to an asymmetrical point; as a result every residential unit produces a one of a kind footprint with unique expansive views. Interior walls do not intersect with the curtain walls providing for uninterrupted views of fabulous Las Vegas.

Each resident will experience their own form of World-Class Luxury inside the private retreat complete new technology and appliances, and surrounded with subtle shades of soothing natural tones, paired with warm whites and transparent glass surfaces. Expansive floor to ceiling windows run the entire length of each unit, providing light and breathtaking views of the surrounding city.

Upon entering the Residences, one immediately notices the clean modern detailing, open free-flowing spaces, and quality materials, which provide a feeling of understated elegance. Each unit has sustainable wood flooring throughout with exquisite wall-to-wall wool carpets in the bedrooms. Each kitchen has been outfitted with the latest in Euro-style cabinetry including lift-up glass and wood millwork, fossil stone granite counters and state of the art designer appliances. All bathrooms feature custom cabinetry and modern designer fixtures and faucets. Closets are outfitted with custom organizers and glass opaque doors. Owners will soak in the warmth and luxury of special freestanding bathtubs.

The feeling is comforting, stylish, minimal and sleek with special attention paid to artistic details. Las Vegas is the ultimate in exciting and dynamic urban environments. For the average visitor it provides a fulfilling action-packed vacation experience. For the people who choose to live in this lively environment we designed a unique, distinctly modern, tranquil environment. We accomplished this by designing an urban sanctuary for the sophisticated resident – a peaceful oasis for living and entertaining, distinct from the visual excitement of Las Vegas. Modern design can sometimes be cold and hard-edged; we avoided the obvious hallmarks of this approach by selecting soft compatible textures, warm wood tones and neutral color palettes that all express a quiet mood.

Materials have been specially selected not only for their suitability and inherent beauty, but also for their contribution in making the CityCenter Mandarin Residential project a LEED Gold Rated Development. All paints and carpet materials contain very low Volatile Organic Compounds VOC. Window coverings are made from post-consumer recycled material. Plumbing fixtures are water conserving and low-flow. Cabinetry wood is sustainable, and joined by the least toxic water based glue. Quarter sawn white oak, steamed American black walnut, and red oak wood flooring from environmentally harvested managed forests are used in public areas and Residences.

The Residences at Mandarin Oriental offers three finish packages: Majestic Pearl, Sovereign Jade and Imperial Orchid, with an additional three finish packages for the Penthouse units. Each expresses a singular taste that is elevated, opulent and unquestionably beautiful.

The Main Lobby is highlighted by a mosaic, wood and limestone Zen Wall and expansive ceiling height. The overall palette of the Lobby is comprised of various neutral textures, teak wood, Zebrawood, onyx with translucent patterned glass. Low slung upholstered lounge chairs covered in camel colored silk flank a uniquely shaped petrified wood side table, naturally polished by time and weather. Artist Kathy Stones artwork entitled Oil Fall 3, graces the Residential Lobby. In vibrant tones of amber, red and silver, its shimmering streams of watery organic strands flow from the ceiling heights and form a pool at the viewers feet.

The Reception Desk is dramatically placed and is formed by a translucent back lit onyx with sustainable zebrawood. Framed behind is a strikingly large-scale artwork in mixed media on resin panel by highly coveted artist Michel Tabori. Its inviting depth of color and surface pulls the viewer in to its yet ethereal imagery. The artist seamlessly incorporates ink and acrylic paint into his resin covered abstraction which glows with an unparalleled intensity and richness. The artwork sets a calm dream like mood with its sophisticated and expressive washes of warm sepia, maroon, gold and grey colors with subtle details.

The Tenant Corridors feature custom Asian inspired elements such as custom designed Aximinster carpet which is graphically reminiscent of water lilies and bamboo. Silk inspired wall coverings adorn the corridor gallery walls along with beautiful artwork which evokes tranquil feelings as the guest ascends to their unit. Zebrawood doors frame each residential entry as artfully designed graphics announce the private residences.

The Lobby Lounge and Billiard Room features a professional tournament size pool table surrounded by wood paneled walls with artful niches displaying vibrantly colored glass objet dart. Warm-toned area rugs and woven leather upholstered furnishings provide areas to relax. A large scale dynamic abstract artwork acts as a dramatic backdrop expressing bold energy with its inky black splashes and oblique lines. The wall-sized canvas is punctuated by tones hot pink and lively yellow against a verdigris-mottled background.

The Private Executive Boardroom features custom designed pendant lighting with open shades of interlacing polished nickel rings. Executive high backed two toned leather upholstered and chrome chairs surround an asian lacquered cherry conference table flanked by a matching custom designed red lacquered credenza.
