The Endeavor Charter School, located in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, is a new K-8 facility for over 700 students. The school consists of a 47,000 square foot renovated former factory building with a new 25,000 square foot addition. The program consists of classrooms, art and music rooms, administrative spaces, a cafeteria, a gymnasium and two rooftop play areas.
The new glass curtainwall and metal panel clad addition serves as a light, reflective counterpoint to the original heavy concrete building mass. Three painted metallic blue aluminum wrapped canopies integrate the entire building and mark the entries to the street and two occupied roof areas. A new precast concrete stair is located in a glass corner on the street facade to provide students panoramic views of the surrounding neighborhood and neighbors glimpses into the dynamic life of the school.
