Parkland

In early 2009, Parkland Health & Hospital System selected HDR+ Corgan for the design and master plan of the new 862-bed Parkland Hospital. The HDR+Corgan joint venture began work in the second quarter 2009.  The project broke ground in late 2010 and is estimated for completion in 2014. The design of the 1.9 million-square-foot hospital and attached Women and Infants’ Specialty Hospital incorporates evidenced-based design, Lean design principles and will be LEED Silver certified,  resulting in a landmark medical campus that will serve the community for decades into the future. Also incorporated into the design are two large heated helipads, with accommodations for a future expansion of a third helistop.  High-speed, oversized elevators are also being installed to quickly transport patients to operating rooms. In addition to the shell and core design, the Corgan healthcare team focused on public spaces as well as all non-clinical support services, including nutritional services, pharmacy, central sterile and logistics. Corgan coordinated patient unit clinical support spaces throughout the facility, including medication rooms, nourishment, clean/soiled, equipment and general storage.
