Hyatt Place, located on Fore Street, is a 130 room, 7 story, 80,000 s.f., limited service hotel. Its contemporary design projects a twenty-first century identity, while transparency at the ground floor engages the vibrant street scene in Portland’s Old Port. Creating a drop-off area on a site with severe area constraints was accomplished by carving out a space within the building footprint. A six story faceted-glass corner contraposes the restraint of the building’s stone-panel siding. The building envelope incorporates a high performance rain screen system and co-generation is provided by a roof mounted micro-turbine. Included in the lobby and bar are custom light fixtures designed in collaboration with two Maine artists.
