Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Story Wall

Celebrating Courage: The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle is one of America’s largest and most prestigious medical research organizations. The Center’s leaders wanted to recognize thousands of cancer patients who have taken part in clinical trials for Bone Marrow Transplants over the institution’s 38-year history.

They turned to Michael Courtney Design to develop a meaningful tribute. The design team’s solution called for the story to be told on graphic and text panels with the history shown via a spiral shaped timeline. At the “current history” end of the display, the timeline passes over a vertically mounted 18″ x 42″ plasma screen showing an ever-changing array of photographs of patients, along with handwritten words reflecting on their personal encounters with cancer.

The patient appreciation wall is flanked by a separate display of the gold Nobel medals won by three of the Center’s distinguished scientists.
