Box House

Floor plan: 36.00 sqm

Box House replaces an old stone structure that once stood on the coastal mountainside in São Paulo, Brazil. Incorporating the old stone base into the updated design and working within a limited budget, Alan Chu Silveira e Cristiano Arns Kato arquitetos developed a solution that incorporates both modern and antiquated elements, juxtaposing simple, geometric shapes and modern, concrete constuction with wood and stone. The elements harmonize such that neither overshadows the another, yet they retain their spatial relationships.

The bottom floor features a kitchen and dining area, with a restroom carved into the mountainside, while the top floor provides an open bedroom with a large window overlooking the coast.
