Atturaif District of Addiriyah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and first home of the Saudi royal
family, is being carefully reconstructed and preserved by an international group of planners, architects and conservators. It is expected to become a popular heritage tourism site.
CGA’s wayfinding master plan for this labyrinthian district took inspiration from a spoked wheel that encompasses the sector’s palaces, 9 museums, and sprawling souk.
Wayfinding needed to be understated enough to address historic preservation concerns but robust enough to assist the many visitors expected to tour the confusing mud brick corridors. CGA is also designing signage for the adjacent Bujeiri precinct, site of a new welcome center, mosque and visitor comforts.
