Founded in 1970 as a roofing and construction supply company, Bison was then known as United Construction Products and has evolved with the changes in the roofing industry by continually developing new products that meet contractor needs. In the mid-nineties, Bison pedestals and the concept of adjustable deck supports were introduced to the US and have since revolutionized the way contractors build level decks over rooftops and occupied spaces. In addition to a full line of deck pedestals, other products include commercial grade, Wood Tiles and Cube planters.
Today, Bison Innovative Products is a recognized leader in the building community. In 2009, Bison won the prestigious Architectural Record Editor’s Pick award for its Massaranduba Wood Tiles. Bison Massaranduba Wood Tiles are FSC® Certified (FSC-C013454) and are preassembled to measure 2’ x 2’. As with all Bison Wood tiles, they work with Bison Deck Supports and Fastening Kit (patent pending) for building decks on rooftops, green roofs, terraces and plazas. Similar recognition was awarded in 2010 for the Bison Pop-Up Park and Cube planters. Created for urban environments, the Bison Pop-Up-Park is a decking platform that extends a level and natural wood surface from a street’s curbside. Planters overflowing with greenery connected by railing creatively provide the mini-park’s border. The Bison Cube is an innovative modular feature that makes it easy to add planters, seating and/or storage to Bison pedestal decking systems. The Bison Cube provides infinite design choices for creative outdoor decking atmospheres. Each Bison Cube measures 2’ x 2’ which is the same size as a Bison Wood Tile – instead of installing a deck tile, set a Bison Cube in its place.
Bison Deck Supports have been installed in thousands of decks throughout the U.S.A. and Canada. They are made in the U.S.A. and contain 20% post-industrial recycled material. Notable projects include supporting granite pavers at Chicago’s Crown Fountain at Millennium Park, hydra-pressed concrete pavers at the University of California at Berkeley and Bison Wood Tiles at The Visionaire; New York City’s first LEED Platinum-certified condominiums.
